Hey, it's Ryan from Sierra Trading Post and today we're talking about how to size and fit ski helmets
easiest way to do it
is with a soft fabric measuring tape
and today I'm going to show you how to do it on this dummy head
You're going to want to measure around the widest part of the head, and that's usually right
above the eyebrows
You're also going to want to get a measuring tape that has centimeters
so to start measuring
you're going to want to place it
in the middle of the eyebrows
between your eyes
measure on the thickest part
just above the ears
and then take your measurements where the two overlap
and it's just about
57 centimeters
the next thing you're going to want to do is get a calculator
you're going to want to divide the
number you took off the measuring tape
by 2.54
so 57 divided by
2.54
and that's 22.4 inches
so while you're in the store or shopping online you're going to want to look for a helmet
that's as close to that measurement as possible
so luckily Bern advertises their measurements right on the box 57
centimeters
it's between 21.78 inches and 22.5. So this helmet
would fit perfectly
To place the helmet on your head you're going to want to first put the brim
right above the eyebrows
and squeeze it backwards
and that should secure the head in there perfectly
next you're going to want to
adjust the chin strap
I've already pre-adjusted it
and a good rule of thumb (and it's literally a rule of thumb)
you want to be able to slip your thumb
behind the buckle
That usually allows
for adequate space, keeps the helmet tight enough, and won't choke you.
Now let's take a look at a helmet that doesn't fit.
a good indicator of helmets that don't fit
is they'll cover up your eyebrows. You want a helmet to fit just above your eyebrows
Do you see how this helmet moves side-to-side, front-and-back?
It's obviously a helmet that does not fit
so there it is
how to fit and size a ski helmet.
