How to Change Transmission Fluid - How to install transmission fluid filter

In this step, we're going to talk about the proper service procedure for removing your old trans filter and re-installing your new filter. The first thing I want you to do on your new filter is to install the sealing o-ring. Go ahead and slip it right on to the filter suction side just like so. Be sure when you remove your old filter that it sticks to the suction side pipe, if its not present there, you're going to want to look inside the suction port on the transmission and fish it out with a small pick. I'm going to grab my creeper and go ahead and slide underneath the vehicle and begin removing my old transmission filter. Once underneath the vehicle, I'm going to take my quarter-inch ratchet, I got an extension and a little swivel socket here with a ten millimeter on it. I'm going to remove the mounting bolts for the transmission's oil filter. Alright, I still have my drain pan underneath the transmission in case there's some residual fluid left inside we won't spill it when we take our fluid off. This transmission filter specifically has three small bolts that hold it on. Some just pop into place. Some has various different types of screws. You're going to want to make sure that you get them all out before you being yanking on the filter. And there we go. We're going to check inside the suction port to make sure the sealing ring came out and as you can see, it did. It is stuck right here on the transmission filter. Once the filter is removed and we've ensured the suction ring has came out, we can re-install our new transmission filter. We're going to line the suction port pipe up with the suction port on the trans pan and gently wiggle it into place just like so. Once you have it in place, you can begin re-installing the bolts. Once you have all the bolts started and run down several threads, you can begin the tightening procedure. I will always start with the bolt closest to the suction port and work away from it in a circular pattern. Normally there's only a few bolts, I've never seen more than five. Once you have them all run down by hand, you can snug them up with your ratchet. These are very small bolts, not made of a hardened steel, and you are threading into aluminum. So be gentle in your tightening procedure. Just approximately a quarter turn past contact is more than enough torque to hold the filter in place. Right there. Right there, and for the final one, right there. That is the proper way to remove your old transmission filter and install your new one on the valve body of the transmission.
