Hi there! I'm Fran Friedman from Morning Star Animal Sanctuary and I am here to talk to
you about traveling with your ferrets on behalf of expertvillage.com. The first thing is ferrets
do love to travel. When you have your ferrets, sometimes leaving them home is stressful and
they do get very stressed when they are separated from their owners. The best solution, if possible,
is to take them with you. Make sure the first thing is the weather. Ferrets can have heat
stroke within 5 minutes. Definitely if the weather is too warm it is sometimes best to
bring in a pet sitter and not travel with your pet. If you can go in an air conditioned
car to where you are going or if you are going some where where it is very short distance
and there will be air conditioning, then they certainly can go out in the summer months.
Definitely traveling in the winter is better because they do take cool a lot better than
they do the heat. If you have to travel with your ferret, make sure that you bring plenty
of water. I always buy a case of water just in case you are out and the car gets stuck
some where, you have enough water that you can even water down your animal to keep them
from getting heat stroke. There are several signs such as if your ferret starts yawning
or looking very lethargic definitely make sure he has a good drink along the way and
ferrets do eat every 4 hours so you certainly will have to bring their favorite food.
