Hi, I'm Brian Young we're here at Maple Woods Fitness Center today
and I'm working with Sheila, and we're going to demonstrate
a few different exercises using the Bosu ball.
Now a Bosu ball is kind of a goofy looking piece of equipment.
Basically it has a nice hard flat surface on one side,
you flip it around and it's a very squishy, rounded surface.
So there's a whole variety of exercises you're gonna do.
I'm going to have Sheila first off demonstrate how to do squats standing up on the Bosu ball.
Then we're gonna kind of go over some other exercises you can do just standing on it.
Uh, and then we're gonna flip it over and try a couple other things.
So first of all Sheila's gonna demonstrate how to do a proper squat standing on the Bosu ball.
You'll notice as she's standing on here it is a very squishy surface.
Sometimes you lose your balance, that's very normal.
It takes a little while to get the perfect feet position.
Now the squat, she's gonna bring her butt out behind her, bring her arms forward,
and lower her body toward the floor,
bring her thighs to parallel to the floor.
Now this becomes very challenging, since it is an uneven, squishy surface.
It's hard to get a nice flat foot.
So it makes a great addition to doing squats.
Now just from just standing on the Bosu, she can do lots of exercises.
I got a set of dumbbells.
Basically she can stand here and do upper body exercises,
but standing on an uneven surface makes it more challenging.
First off she's demonstrating an overhead shoulder press.
Though it is an upper body exercise,
her lower body and her core get involved because she's standing on an uneven surface.
Here we have lateral raises.
Bicep curls.
All these exercises can be done by standing on a Bosu ball.
Alright.
Next thing we're gonna do is flip the Bosu ball over.
Now by having the rounded surface downward, it becomes even more challenging.
Just standing on the ball can be hard.
This is a great addition if you're wanting to work on balance, improve your balance,
just standing on an uneven surface like this, rocking back and forth.
Great muscle development, and it really helps strengthen the core too.
[Sheila] Squat.
[Brian] And a squat becomes even more challenging.
Thank you Sheila.
