A lawyer involved in the water rights case
is in the high court today fighting allegations of conflict of interest.
Donna Hall disputes the charge against her,
where it's claimed she acted for the seller, buyer and a lender
in a deal for a block of land in Taupo.
Donna Hall was one of the drivers of the water rights case
before the Waitangi Tribunal.
She now faces her own personal legal battle.
Donna Hall is accused of misconduct as a lawyer
regarding a land deal in Taupo.
It's alleged that she inappropriately acted
for the seller, buyer and lender.
The complaint was heard by
the Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal
in April this year.
But it's since been taken to the High Court.
The complainant stands by his allegations.
Topia Rameka was unable to give comment under court orders.
However our research indicates that he is in fact
an owner of the land blocks.
Donna Hall is the wife of retired judge Sir Eddie Durie.
If the high court rules in favour of the complainant,
she will be struck off as a lawyer.
The date has been set for September 19th.
