Searching for References in Your RefWorks Account Using Quick Search
As the number of references in your RefWorks account grows,
you will need a way to quickly find specific references.
Let's take a look at how to find references using Quick Search.
You can use the Quick Search box to find references containing specific words
Either whole or partial words.
Type the word you want to find here.
Quick Search looks in all fields in all references in your RefWorks database.
By default, it searches only the bibliographic information,
But you can also search inside the full text
Of file attachments you have uploaded to RefWorks.
To enable this feature, click the paperclip icon next to the Search button
Now it will also search within any attached .PDF or .TXT files in your account.
Click the Search button to run the search.
RefWorks will list all of the references containing your search word,
Listed in order of relevance.
Notice that the word is highlighted wherever it appears in your results.
There are a few points about Quick Search you should know.
It is not case-sensitive, so capitalization doesn’t matter.
If you enter multiple words,
RefWorks searches them using “OR” between them.
So a search for heart disease would find references containing either heart OR disease
Whatever you type is exactly what it will search,
So don’t use quotation marks or Boolean operators like AND, OR, and NOT here.
Finally, Quick Search looks for embedded terms,
Meaning that if you search for art,
It will find references containing arts, smart, heart, etc.
In addition to Quick Search,
There is also an Advanced Search function under the Search menu.
You can learn more about Advanced Search in the “RefWorks Advanced” set of video tutorials.
