I'm Dana.
I'm Madelyn. I'm Grace. What are your names?
Hi. I'm Tasia.
25 years ago, iEARN started out between classrooms in the Soviet Union and the United States.
We are like enemies at that time.
It takes just some projects together and you know, you are friends.
Happy anniversary iEARN!
iEARN was launched in 1988 and today it's expanded to the point where there are about
40 thousand member-teachers
and about two million students
every day working together on projects all over the world, in many languages.
I came to iEARN that there is a world outside Egypt, actually.
It was my first encounter with how to exchange experience through collaboration, forums and projects.
I think it's really important to have international collaboration, particularly for my students
because they're not going to have the opportunity as much as some other students to travel.
When you go to the iEARN website, you actually would go to a tab that's called collaboration.
You can either scroll through the different projects that they offer or you can type in a subject
or type in an age level or a content area.
The collaboration part of the iEARN project is what fascinated me, what gets me going
because almost on every project you learn about new people and their culture.
We did design a site and it's about 80 percent done.
We will finish it and then we'll upload it on iEARN.
There's a site, basically, so we share the site and people will get to see it.
That is why the students also love the projects,
because they can see the other friend from the other end and they share great ideas.
I watch the kids put their hands up on the screen. You know, saying bye
and, like, trying to high five each other.
So, guys. If you had to change one thing about your assembly,
what would you change about it and why?
One of the things, the many things that was so important about the iEARN projects, is how
completely they could align with the things that you have to teach and the things that kids have to learn.
It had reading, writing, research...tools. It was great. Plus the 21st century opportunity to share.
When students talk to other kids from around the world,
they have to formulate to themselves who they are, to present themselves.
Once they identify things that they care about, they become caring citizens
of their own country, the world. They become global citizens.
I'm so excited about this iEARN conference.
I think it's a great opportunity to meet
different teachers from different countries, to see what they do,
what they find important and maybe I can set up a project with one of the schools abroad.
Enjoy YouthCaN 2013!
The suns rays actually change from light waves to heat waves.
Burning wood causes all that pollution.
Hey! Solar cooking is a perfect solution.
I love iEARN.
It could have a transformational effect because of the stability, the organization,
the resources, the people,
just top notch, truly.
Happy 25th anniversary iEARN!
