On December 17,
the National Changhua University of Education
organized a public forum
on the new 12-year compulsory education program.
The policy is scheduled to take effect in 2014.
This new program has received criticism
from a large number of parents and educators
in recent years.
To help people understand this reform,
NCUE's College of Extension Education
and Graduate Institute of Education
invited scholars, university presidents,
and government officials
to discuss problems that may arise
when the new program is implemented.
During the forum, they exchanged opinions,
raised concerns about some details,
answered the audience's questions
and stated their expectations.
Mr. 郭艷光, the President of the NCUE,
noting that the program will have long-term effects
on schools and students,
opined that the forum would be helpful
to the Ministry of Education
in implementing this education reform.
Following the forum,
the Graduate Institute of Education
hosted a conference on educational innovations.
Eleven people shared the results of their research
on a variety of topics such as homeschooling,
classroom management and character education.
Mr. 王智弘, the Director of the Graduate Institute of Education
hopes that the new ideas offered at this conference
will be helpful to educators around Taiwan.
