In cultural news, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
registers five Iranian traditional elements. Part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of
Humanity, these include the art of carpet weaving in both the Fars and Kashan regions.
An Iranian martial art named the Pahlavani and Zurkhaneh sport and the music of the Bakhshis
of Khorasan region, performed on a two–stringed lute called the dotar, were also cited. In
addition, the Iranian passion play tazieh, based on folk tales, historical and mythical
occurrences and religious events, was recorded.
