Gigantic Downey Goodlein Traction Freight Elevator at Rit Gannet Building 7b Rochester, Ny

>> Oops! >> I can yank it open. >> Oh, wow! >> This is the freight elevator here at Building 7B at RIT. >> I do have to open the outside doors manually because you must have a key to operate them electrically from outside. Let's take a look at this... They have some boxes here and this thing is humongous! Let's go up to Level 4. You have to hold the button down for a second This elevator is relay-controlled. This is the 4th floor. I guess the film gods live there. Let's go down to the basement. I have to get around these boxes to get back there. This is definitely a traction elevator. Ironically, this is the smoothest one on campus. Let's get a view of this. Let's go up to 4. This thing is gigantic! I could actually fit 2 sub-compacts like Mini Coopers in here. This is actually larger than the Dover elevator at Atlanta Symphony Hall There's the escape hatch. We're gonna take it for one more ride. Those are the chains - basically large bike chains. Original Otis fixtures but... Downey-Goodlein had to leave their mark. Alarm [rings] It has a phone. Here we are on the basement. I had to hold... The doors do open automatically - I just held the Door Stop button. Ironically, this is faster than the passenger elevator, which is actually located in building 7A - we're in 7B but, both buildings are connected. I see that someone is trying to use it, so I'm going to get off here. It should work. Alright, that's about it. By the way, this is the exterior portion. This has been unlocked a few times. Nope, it's locked, but you can see out there a portion of the campus I'm surprised - this is usually unlocked. And, they've got a security camera just to make sure you're not up to trouble. And that's about it.
