Hello Autoblog viewers.
We're driving the most fun BMW of the last 15-20 years.
I have to confess, I've never driven it before.
That's a shame, because my friends were mocking me.
I'll make up for it today. And how!
This isn't a normal 1M, but a Manhart 1M.
It has 459 hp and 516 ft-lb of torque.
In short, the most fun BMW of the last 10 years.
The 1M doesn't need a lot of miles.
It's a great toy, absolutely.
Of course, we've driven the M5, M3, the whole lot, ...
but these cars are heavier and don't feel as nimble as this car.
If you tuned it to over 395 hp and do 180 mph on the Autobahn: woohoo!
The 1M's story is simple and you probably know it.
The 1 coupe with the strange butt isn't a pretty car, ...
but they've made it into a great toy.
It's no longer in production, which is a shame.
However, this car from Manhart is tuned for relatively little money.
"Relatively", because it still costs 12,000 euros.
That's a lot of money, but you get a lot of fun in return.
If you look at the fun-euro ratio, ...
you won't get this for 60.000-70.000 euros second-hand.
I can't think of anything that comes close.
The 0-62 mph sprint hasn't been measured by Manhart, ...
which I think is funny and slightly arrogant. They just say it's fast.
However, I think you know that 0-62 mph is done in less than 4 secs.
Whether that's 3.9 or 3.7 secs is just nitpicking.
Believe me, this thing is fast.
This 1M has more good news.
As you may have noticed, on the exterior it's rather striking.
I think it's inconvenient, ...
because you won't be able to enter cities with all those speed bumps.
The solution: don't order the ugly tupperware package.
Unless you have a house on wheels and a lot of chest hair.
Then you may think it's pretty.
And then you should go for it.
This is fun. A standard 1M doesn't have this.
When I keep pressing the button, the computer will tell me ...
- with a lot of graphics - how much G-forces I pull.
See, pretty lines that tell me about consumption, horsepowers ...
and all the temperatures.
After 2 hours of play with this 1M confirms what others have told me.
This is the most fun BMW of the last 15-20 years.
Light, you can drift it, fast, agile... Wonderful.
Do read the 1M warning label, because this isn't a daily driver.
The suspension is so stiff, you're pretty shaken after a short ride.
As a plaything it gets an A+, but as daily driver it's too bouncy.
