My name is Barbara Esses and I do events for a living. I'm Ruthie Hecht; I'm an event planner
and I work with and for my mother. We're going to teach you the do's and don'ts for the perfect
wedding. When a bride and groom decide to get married in their family or even not in
their family sanctuary, be it a church or a synagogue, usually those buildings are quite
beautiful and the best way to decorate them is with lighting, not so much flowers. Not
because flowers aren't beautiful, flowers are very costly, but more flowers doesn't
necessarily make the space look better. It's usually wonderful to highlight the architecture
of the space and to mark the spot where the ceremony is actually happening and to mark
the aisle at the begining of it so that when the bride enters there's something very beautiful
to claim her for the pictures and then there's something visual for the bride and groom and
the officiant when they're standing and actually doing the ceremony.
The most important thing, I think, are either candles if it's nighttime or some kind of
lighting to highlight the space so that people really get to feel comfort in the space and
the beauty of the space because most houses of worship are quite beautiful.
So, decoration should be minimal but it should just bring the space to life.
