Hello and welcome, Janet Beckers here with your Wonderful Web tip of the week. So, what
do you say when you're meeting the person for the first time and they say "What do you
do?" Well usually people get it very wrong. So that's what we're talking about this week...

Hi and welcome. Well I'm down here at beautiful Terrigal beach early in the morning just having
been for my rum with my friend Gabe who's holding the camera. And you can see behind
me it's really a social event; lots of people get together, they might've done some exercise,
they might meet other people. In social situations, networking events, anything... at some stage,
someone's going to say to you "So, what do you do?"
Now quite often people will do very inner focused which means they're talking about
"I am a business coach"; a naturopath. A very, very much focused on them, but what you've
got to do is turn it around because all their eyes would glaze over. I want you to think
about focusing on them first.
For example, what's their biggest problem? What is the thing that's really going to grab
their attention? So you might say, going back to the example of a naturopath is I help women
through their menopause to control their hormones and live life with lots of energy. You can
see how that's going to get a lot more attention rather than saying I am a naturopath who specializes
in helping people; women going through menopause.
You can see how's the difference. The difference, the focus on them not on you. Now to get this
right is actually a bit of a skill and so I've got a link down below to a wonderful
woman, Samantha Hartley, who is perfect at doing this. Her and I are going to be running
a free webinar next week, this week -- depends on when you're looking at this.
And she's actually going to teach you a really good strategy for doing that introduction
that just makes people just "Boom! Hone in" and go "wow! You're the person I needed."
The real skill I find is it's a difficult thing to do unless you've got a strategy because
we're too close to it.
