Here is a quick tutorial on the program we will be piloting for digital literacy for
students in grades 6-8.
This is a self-paced tutorial on digital citizenship. It is called Ignition and is free from Everfi.
Each school has an access code. The teacher enters the access code and follows the steps
to set up a class.
In your browser, type in https://ignition.everfi.net
In the top right find New to Everfi? Click on Sign Up
Enter the registration code and click on I’m a teacher
Fill in your information, click to agree to the terms of service, then click on Finished
Click on I’m ready. Name your class
and click the term you’ll be using. Fill in the estimated start and finish dates and
estimate the number of students. Then click on Add Class.
Then you’ll be given the access code to allow students to self register.
The steps for the student are similar.
I’ll logout and log back in as a student.
Again, find New to Everfi? Click on Sign Up
Enter the student access code, but this time click on I’m a Student. Fill in the information.
Make sure students write down their user name and pick a password they’ll remember. They
don’t have to list an email address.
Now they can get started. Here we go.
Notice there are 8 modules and students earn certifications as they master a module.
Click on Welcome to Ignition
Notice you get to play a fun game while the program loads.
Test your audio Watch the video.
Notice that even if you don’t have audio you can read the narration by clicking here.
Students work their way through each module earning badges. When they’re finished they
receive a certification.
Pretty cool, right?
The student progress will show up in the teacher’s account, too!
So, play with it yourself, share with teachers, and encourage all your 6th-8th grade students
to get certified!
