Hello, my name is Shalon Delgado and on behalf of Expert Village I’m here today to talk
to you about TFP’s or as some people call it TFP-CD’s and these are trade for prints
or trade for CD’s. Now most photographers who are just getting in the business may do
a TFP as well as more models, new models they’re looking for TFP’s. That means that it’s
a win, win situation when you’re going on a set and you’re doing a TFP with a photographer
because you’re getting pictures for your work that you’re doing and you don’t have
to pay for them. But before you start taking any pictures with a photographer, you want
to make sure that you clarify what you’re getting in a timely fashion. How long is it
going to take you to get those pictures back and if you’re getting your pictures back,
what is the photographer going to do with those pictures that you just took? Is it to
build his portfolio as well as you taken them to build your portfolio? Or is he going to
turn around and sell them on a black-market or anything else? He may use them for magazine
prints, but you want to make sure that any work that you do with any kind of photographer
you clarify the situation and find out are you going to get a cut of the pay? If in fact
it does get picked up in a magazine or something like that or is it just going to be a portfolio
tear sheet for you? TFP’s are very, very useful when you’re starting out as a model
because you’re going to learn how to pose in front of a camera without having to pay
for it and you’re going to learn how to deal with different photographers and how
they work as far as setting up their lighting or if it’s on set or if it’s in a studio
or if it’s on location, different areas and working with if they have a designer or
you bring your own clothes and learning how to do your makeup and all that kind of stuff.
So, you want to make sure that you check out the photographer, see what kind of work they’ve
done, see what they’re going to do with your pictures, see how fast you’re going
to get your pictures back and where you’ll be able to use them, if they’re portfolio
type images for your portfolio. TFP’s once again are very useful when you’re starting
out but once you get into the modeling industry you want to go beyond that, there are some
professional photographers that will do TFP’s and they have great work, so look out for
that too. Thank you for visiting, you may visit me at www.myspace.com/shalon711, have
a great day.
