PBS was driving on funding airy a documentary titled Citizen Cope and as
you can imagine it was going to be very nice to the Koch brothers it has to do
with the influence of money in politics
and last minute they decided we're gonna pull funding we're gonna pull this
documentary
because the Koch brothers actually do what fun PBS to some extent
they didn't want to ruffle anyone's feathers as a result other two
filmmakers involve the movie Academy award-nominated film makers Carl deal
and Tia lessin went to Kickstarter
because they wanted to create the film nonetheless and they actually
raised more money than what they were going to originally get from PBS
so PBS was gonna give them about one hundred fifty thousand dollars
but now it turns out that as of Thursday the Citizen Cope
movie raised one hundred seventy thousand dollars from nearly
3400 owners get money that exit
that's a terrific story so it's interesting be had a
PBS had allowed another a movie that had to coax
NN so about poor a a building on Park Avenue
and the cokes Ademco cabin leave their David Koch also happen to be on the
border PBS
and he was not happy about it and of course
that's part of having control the media well that's why they were thing you're
buying more
newspapers with your money-losing business but as for
marketing is for propaganda et cetera and so
eventually David Koch left the board love PBS and a half
and so PBS Swiss scared out there much all my god what we lose our corporate
donors
when you lost to *** or no so in this movie came
was coming out and it was about the Koch brothers they don't want NDP so that
controversy
they ran for the hills which is terrible but now so that people say
in Article record the same I start given a PBS and I started giving to this
documentary to make a point and which is disasters because PBS's
you know very dependent on on private donations building all their money comes
government only for you and shove their funding comes billion a year
from the federal government only twelve percent okay now the problem though is
that the remaining eighty-eight percent
a lot of it comes to you and I not well you
I I got any way with the youngsters
I'm but but a lot of it comes from corporations the sponsors and
benefactors but when you do that venue beholden to the benefactors
you know I this may have happened there may be a lot of stories about this I'm
not ever heard of PDS
buckling under directly the benefactor pressure me basically
look at how it works in is how it should work in United Kingdom
with the BBC they funded but they don't you know
the ideas like we're giving you money and then editorially office it's totally
up to you
right that's the that's how it's supposed to work but with corporate
corporate America
never doesn't seem to expect some degree
overturn yeah on whatever they lay out hmm
and in this case it was a it was a big story about that earlier movie
and and and there's no question that Coke David Koch was
upset about it and pulled and there's no question that PBS
was very concerned about that reaction
it's just that n and and so we're clear on this they had
previously agreed and told all along the filmmakers that they would fun that
are in fifty thousand dollars after the other movie came out may got there
pressure than they said
near you know what we change our mind on that funding
and enough course the you a list of nonsense reasons which were
like they didn't even try that hard right well we have a good read out a
bill
comment parking I
so but look hey good news you know what
a to E the big benefactors you are pull money out of these
big media organizations threaten them et cetera sorry
they got more money online so that internet sends his regards
I
