Kentucky Ending Private Prisons

kentucky is ending private prisons kentucky is not going to renew our contract with marian adjustment center when it ends eight when it expires in a couple of days this would be me after that day it'll be the first time in thirty years that kentucky does not have any privately-run prisons it's gonna save the state about two million dollars a year now there's a number of reasons why i think we need to move away from private prisons we've had a number of interviews on this show about it we've talked about the prison industrial complex louis and really the the big issues for it we can make a number of analyses about this right and there's a number of reasons why we know it's bad for private prisons to exert influence private prisons absolutely love the war on drugs the more people they can house for non-violent marijuana offenses the more money they make we know that we but judges it will be back recently a judge was sentenced to prison time because he was taking kickbacks to send kids to private prisons we also know that up private prison start taking positions on immigration reform the more they can modify the immigration system such that they are housing undocumented immigrants while they're in the deportation process the better and this is just and negative influence i think it is fantastic that kentucky is completely getting out of the private prison uh... you know there are no there are no benefits for-profit prison if this were the person's absurd things this country's ever concocted and i'm kinda shock infront going to be uh... corner of one of the splitting it into this like health care the incarceration industry should not be for-profit the healthcare industry should not be for profit i hope that at some point we start making um... you know good progress in that direction i don't know exactly when it will be maybe this is a sign of that please join us on face book face book dot com slash david packard show and pick up again the package for the t-shirt or actually wait a second you wanna free t-shirt go to david packing dot com slash well this is only going on about another six hours getting ten percent discount possibly membership and we will send you david accurate take a break down with by the the david patroonship david happening dot com
