It's nearly been a year since the grounding of the Rena.
According to iwi in the tribal forum, Te Moana a Toi,
the Government have gone back on their agreement.
$27.6 million will be paid out by the Daina shipping company
to the Govt and its agencies.
But there's been no word on any share given to Te Moana a Toi.
Insults were directed at the
Minister of Transport, Gerry Brownlee.
What are you doing, Gerry Brownlee?
That's a despicable move to sneak around behind closed doors.
We're supposed to be working
side by side.
They've turned their backs
and started talking directly with the Rena's owners.
We've had no consideration.
Removing the Rena from the Astrolabe reef
was at the top of the agenda today.
In my opinion,
I believe we should work together and oppose the government's actions.
Tauranga Moana and its people
need to be strong.
The Tauranga Moana collective will take their concerns to PM John Key
at Mataatua Marae in Whakatane, next week.
