Joho Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Jo Cognito from Videoamt with the subject "My video views are frozen".
The 300er question, don't know how often I've read it and I often wanted to make a video about that.
And thanks to my subscribers for giving me the basics to explain that.
Well, I've uploaded a video and I've watched it for 300 times on my own.
Then I asked my subscribers to write a comment under the video.
Why have I done this? I wanted that there are more comments visible than video views.
That's the film and it has 301 views but520 comments, seems strange,
if there are 520 people writing comments, well I guess that these are different people,
then the counter should show more than 300 views.
Because of the fact that I've watched the video for 300 times on my own, a number about 300 freezes..
Why? YouTube just wants to count "real" views, and not two or three comming from the same IP.
Every pc has its own IP adress and if I watch the same film from the same IP adress, for example from an internet café,
then the views get frozen for some time, until the "real" clicks are the majority. 0:01:29,0:01:35 If it's frozen for one time like now, then it can take a lot of time til the counter continues.
It can take hours or even days with videos that don't get viewed so much.
There are the funniest stories like "All my dudes have watched it and it's been more than 300 times".
No it wasn't, because it's been the same IP adress and your dudes lied.
As I said, sometimes it continues counting when the "real" views are more than the views from one IP adress.
I can show you how I did this, because I've uploaded a test video like this one.
I'm opening it in my browser with a new tab for 10 times.
It's just a short video, I'm closing it and I repeat it.
10 times again, or 100, but 300 times would be the best.
Like I've done it with the video, 300 times.
Here you can see the videos are opened and they get played.
So if I press update there should be a number, so I'm doing this and take a look at that number.
So I've watched it for 22 times, I could go on until I reach the 300, but I don't want to do that.
Then it becomes like this: 301 watched on my own, but nearly 600 people have written comments.
This shows to me that people really watched the video and it's twice as much as the number of views.
So normally it should be clear that it goes on counting, but actually it's frozen.
It can really take hours or days, or more, however.
Even when you've just started on YouTube, you're impatient, like me, and you want to click on the film
and you want to edit it and you click play and watch it again, take a look at the other videos and so on.
Then you really get the clicks, and this may cause the freezing of the views.
I normally look my videos twice before it goes online, this causes that effect.
Later on the videos get frozen when they have a bigger number of views but it doesn't attract attention.
I don't really know the numbers, just imagine some of them, doesn't matter.
So it's not the only number, it doesn't attract attention when you have a lot of video views.
It normally concerns chartbreakers or people whose videos don't get viewed so much.
Finally you can get to know something with Insight, because you can see the unique users.
If I click on that I can see that the proportion is 1 to 2.
But I can't really say how detailed the statistics are, but you can see the difference.
But the difference is bigger in the music, because you use to listen a song for 10 times, from the same IP,
and that's the reason for this.
But don't be afraid, sometimes it continues.
Concerning this video maybe tomorrow, because then the number of video views will be higher, other viewers get added,
and I'll have a big number like, don't know, 900, however, depends on how many viewers have watched the video.
Okay, this is it. More views from one IP for a video cause some kind of spam protection from YouTube.
So I could watch it as much as I want...
It's no problem.
There are also people who do this, because you could also write an automatic tab, I've seen this very often.
Yes, this is it. Hope you never have to ask why the number of views gets frozen.
Especially I never have to answer it again, thanks to all of my subscribers.
I hope you've learned something, if yes subscribe, if not then let it be.
This was Jo Cognito from Videoamt, and I am out.
