The next left hand technique is called the hammer on. This can be particularly hard if
you haven't played a stringed instrument before. Because you need to build up callouses on
your fingers. But the hammer on is when you pluck an open string. And then hammer your
finger on to a fret. You have to do this really fast, and with a lot of force in order to
get the note. It's easier to do on the lowest string. This can also be included in with your rolls.
So if you start again with an alternating thumb roll you can throw in a hammer on, on
both strings.
