at about eight p.m.
Officer Johnny Fiatoa was dispatched to a suspicious circumstance
type case at the Oneawa Street bridge
an anonymous caller reported seeing a male sitting on the railing
contemplating suicide
Officer Fiatoa arrive on the scene observed the male
he noted a rope securely tied to the railing
with the other end made into a noose
and fastened around the male's neck
before Office Fiatoa could react the male jumped from the bridge
Officer Fiatoa managed to cut the rope
allowing the victim to fall into the water below
Officer Fiatoa who's not a strong swimmer
ran down the bank and into the water
swam to the victim and pulled his lifeless body to the water's edge
there he assessed the victims condition
and administered first aid
until the ambulance arrived
Officer Fiatoa was later transport to the hospital
for treatment of injuries he sustained while rescuing the victim
Officer Fiatoa's action were nothing short of heroic
the acted quickly to free the hanging victim
and with total disregard for his own safety
and well being
entered the water to rescue him
although the male did not survive
Officer Fiatoa's attempts
to save the victims of life
is commendable and worthy of recognition
