Canvas Settings, Profile, And Notifications

This is Steve Stockdale, one of your course instructors. In this video I want to show you how to set up your Canvas Profile, add your photo, and change your Notifications. After you've logged in to your Canvas account, click on Settings on the upper right, on the dark-colored bar, next to the Logout link. To edit your personal information, click the Edit Settings button on the right. To add or change your photo, hover your cursor over the existing photo or empty space, click on the Edit icon, then select or upload your photo. Be sure to click the blue Update Settings button when you are finished. Now on the left menu, click on Profile. To add or edit this page, click on the Edit Profile button. You can also add or change your photo on this page, as well as add a short statement about yourself. You can also share links to personal or professional websites. Again, if you've modified your Profile page, make sure you click the big blue Save Profile button. Finally, let's look at Notifications. Click the button on the left. Canvas will send you notifications and reminders directly to your email account. You can also add other types of accounts, like SMS text message or Facebook. I'm going to demonstrate how to set just one of the Notification preferences. As we go through the course, you may want modify some of these other notifications if you find you're getting too many emails, or if you aren't receiving timely reminders. Announcements will be important in this course, so please make sure you have your Announcements set to Notify me Right Away (or As Soon as Possible). To change the setting, hover your cursor over the current setting, then select one of the four options. In this case, I'll leave the setting at As Soon As Possible. Notice that your notification preference is saved automatically. I also want to point out the Help link, on the other side of the Logout link, where you can access the official Canvas guides and documentation if you would like to learn more. After you've uploaded your photo, added your Profile information, and set your Notifications, you're ready to continue with the rest of the Getting Started module and the course.
