I mean, I lived here my first year,
and then I was an RA last year, and I don't recognize this building.
It's completely different in all good ways.
Because this is a student residence, we relied heavily on student input.
We started meeting with several student groups back in April of 2012
to sit down with the students to figure out specifically what needed
to be changed here at Slocum Hall. They talked about the size of the windows,
the privacy of the bathrooms, and their input really guided us
as we sat down with the CS&A architects and the other designers
to ensure this building met the needs of our students.
Their input was very invaluable as we designed this 21st century residence hall.
"If you notice that whole wall is a whiteboard." "It's a whiteboard?" "Are you serious?"
"No!"
It's like honestly just like mind-blowing.
It's incredible. I mean, I was an RA in Slocum
my first year and it like is just amazing
how it's transformed. Like I mean, the different kitchen areas, that was always something
that kinda difficult, that there was only one kitchen but now there's
multiple snack areas
and the lounge looks incredible, there's so much open space,
places for people to study and work different areas...
I really think this is the kind of residence hall we need for today's students
the kind of collaborative space it offers, the study space it offers
the sort of warmth of home, and also classroom space
where living in learning are blended together, is really a
part of what we do at CC. So I'm thrilled to see this
building reflect our values for today's students.
"It's a whole new world. It IS a beautiful day in the neighborhood."
They heard every feedback we gave them from the focus groups, group
and it just looks
brilliant. It looks amazing.
It's blowing me away. Especially this view right here on the fourth floor.
It's phenomenal. It really is.
We always talk about, you know, trying to showcase who we are and where we are as a school
and this is just incredible. It's an awesome piece of work.
