The next step is parting. You want to determine what size locks the person wants. And that,
a lot of times, is determine by the hair texture, thickness and length. So, Ashley has very
thick hair but because it's long, we really could go with wherever size we like. But,
I always prefer to do something like a medium size, medium to big because a lot of times
when you are locking your hair, they start out big and fat, but the longer your hair
gets, the thinner the lock actually gets. So we're going to use maybe a medium size
comb twist parting. And we're going to do a C-shaping, as so, and we're going to continuing
that C-shaping all the way across. So, that's your first section that is to be twisted and
lock. Then you take a little gel, apply and then you, using the twist comb, you're going
to wrap the hair around the comb till you have a perfect little coil. Then you're going
to move on to the next one, to make your next coil. So what we're doing is beginning the
sections for the dreadlocks.
Some people like to just wear the comb twist. Ashley's hair being straight on the ends is
going to make it tangle a little bit. So, you could cut it before, I tend to cut it
afterwards. I'm going to continue with my C-shaping, I like this parting style because
it is long and it falls in the same direction as the twist or the lock is going to go. So,
it can fall straight from that middle of the parting. And then you just want to twist it
down.
