In world news, a symposium in Âu Lạc (Vietnam) reviews the results of the Australian Government’s
AU$45 million donation to the Asia-Pacific region for eye care. More than 40 physicians
and experts gathered in Hà Nội to discuss the ongoing work of Vision 2020 Australia
Global Consortium. With funding pledged for 2008-2013, the program is being carried out
by several non-profit organizations. It seeks to end avoidable blindness and vision loss
by 2020 in the Asia-Pacific. Participants discussed the positive results and plans for
the future of the project. In Âu Lạc (Vietnam), it has up to now provided 5,500 complimentary
eye surgeries and check-ups, upgraded eye hospitals, and trained 160 eye doctors.
Our earnest gratitude, Australian Government, Vision 2020 Australia Global Consortium, and
all involved, for this caring initiative. May all individuals and communities be graced
with quality health services for optimum well-being.
