Doing America - Ep. 5 - Colorado springs, colorado

(music) (VO - Ben) Heading into the fifth day of our trip across the U.S., we arrive at the next stop. (music continues) (Ben) Alright. We just drove here all night... to Colorado Springs, Colorado. I just woke up. And, I have not see the view of Colorado yet because we drove here all night and I'm dying to go out there. Fazio's out there drinking coffee. I'm curious what he thinks. So time to check out that view. We could barely see last night. (music) (VO - Ben) While we chose to travel across the country in a van, we found a way to spend sometime in a plane. (Ben) Heading off to the Airplane Restaurant. (Fazio) The Airplane Restaurant for a little lunch. (Fazio) I wonder if they have the airplane special... with flies. (Fazio laughs) Flies... (Hostess) Hi. Welcome to the Airplane Restaurant. (Ben) Hi. How are you? (Hostess) Would you guys like to sit down here in the terminal or upstairs in the airplane. (Ben) The airplane would be great. (Hostess) The airplane? (Hostess) Alright. Your flight attendant will be with you in just a few minutes. (Ben) Great. (VO - Ben) Built in 1953, the airplane is a Boeing KC-97 Tanker and was originally designed to refuel other aircraft. Then in 2002, it became the centerpiece of this restaurant allowing customers an up close look at the cockpit while grabbing a bite to eat. (Ben) So, what do you give that for a rating. (Fazio) As far as the food is concerned, it's probably, I'd say 4 out of 5 stars. Really good. But the uniqueness of the restaurant is 5 out of 5. So, I think as far as experiencing something like that, you go to the restaurant once. You eat the good food. And that's it. I can't see going there on, you know, numerous occasions. (Ben) No. You know, I would go back for the terminal, and then that's it. Then I would be like, why do I feel like I'm in an airport. (Fazio) I don't really like the closed quarters that, you know, you can hear everything that's going on right next to you. (woman) Well, Patrick Swayze was sick at the end. (Fazio) Then you have the parent, or the grandparents next door that are trying to shut the kid up because you can hear everything. (Child) I want, I want it now, Mommy! (Adult) Sshhh! (Child) I want to be an airplane pilot! (Adult) Sshhh! (Ben) It was just like any other airplane experience. You have the annoying kid. (Fazio) (laughs) Yes, that's true. (Child) Buy it every waiter! (???) (Adult) Sshhh! (Fazio) Seemed kind of weird. (Ben) I don't know. (Fazio) Oriental Spa Massage is open. (music starts) (Ben) There's another happy customer. (Ben) Next stop... Arcade Amusements. (Fazio) Where the arcade games go to die. (music continues) (VO - Ben) The world famous Manitou Springs Penny Arcade has the one of the best collections of antique and new video games. Pinball machines, Skee Ball, and even coin-operated rides. We could have spent hours at this place reliving our childhood. (arcade sounds) (VO - Ben) We were playing games like Centipede, (arcade sounds) Pac-Man, and Q-bert. (arcade sounds) (music continues) (VO - Ben) Now that we were more than half way across the country, I notice my mood was approving and I could enjoy the trip a little more. (Ben) Not bad. Good day. Good day in Colorado... Springs. (Fazio) Yes, it was. (Ben) Alright. We're we going? (Fazio) Albuquerque. (Ben) And how long til Albuquerque? (Fazio) Uh, five hours. (Ben) Albuquerque. (music) (VO - Ben) After spending the day the Airplane Restaurant and seeing all the rides at the arcade, I started to notice our countries fascination with transportation. Like Elvis' Lincoln Continental at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Seeing all the trains in Scranton. And the traveling bar in Indianapolis. And while we were driving, I found myself filming all types of cars. Trucks carrying cars. And even cars towing other cars.
