Belly Dancing Costumes & Exercises - How to make a belly dancing skirt

So, how do we make a beautiful belly dance costume? Hi, I'm Johanna Krynytzky with Hip Expressions Belly Dance Studio in St. Petersburg, Florida. How do we make a belly dance skirt? There are a couple different ways we can make a skirt. We can make a straight skirt, which comes straight down from the hips, and you can put an elastic on it, and then you're going to put a belt on over it, so it really doesn't matter how finished this edge is. Or you can make a trumpet style skirt, which is what I'm wearing now, where it flares out at the bottom. Or, you can make a circle skirt, which is also very popular in belly dancing, and that's what I have here. Now, for a circle skirt, notice it's a complete half circle with a little bit cut out here to make the waist line. What you're going to do at the top is pull it, put in some elastic around the waist line. Again, you're going to cover this with your belly dance belt, so it's not that important. So, this skirt you can do one half circle, or two half circles. Or this skirt is actually three half circles, which gives you a lot of fabric for when you belly dance. You can put in a slit in it, or not. There are a couple different options. I also put some trim along the bottom, which is also very nice.
