2016 26th December Mumbai cannot boast of cold winters But incidentally on that particular night, the weather was rather chilly It was around 3 a.m. and I was nearly half asleep That’s when the phone rang I opened my eyes a bit and looked at the number A childhood friend At this Godforsaken hour I picked up the phone and that’s when I heard it The desperation in his voice I woke up with a start I spent a few moment pacifying him And that’s when he said “Please Come here ASAP! I want to talk to you” 3 am But a friend’s a friend He stayed right across town, nearly 10 miles away from my home I dressed up as fast as I could and hopped on my motorbike and sped off towards his home In my haste, I had forgotten my jacket and my riding gloves at home The chill in the air was biting; the air frigid with a numbness that couldn’t be deciphered By the time I reached his place, I was shivering down to my spine I spoke to him and calmed him down Apparently his girlfriend had dumped him for good and THAT had made him desperate She left him because he could never find time for her He was always busy with work or his other friends A classic case of taking his girlfriend for granted Matters came to a head when he conveniently forgot his girlfriend’s birthday and had spent THAT day catching up on a movie with a few friends That was the final straw! That’s when she decided that she couldn’t take it anymore She dumped him and moved back to her city without informing anyone And On top of it all she blocked my friend from all sort of communication channels My heart sank after I heard him out But isn’t this the norm these days? We want to run after riches and want to create our own personal success stories But we run with a fear in our heart. We run without taking a deep breath We run without thinking about life and the loved ones around us We live with a perpetual fear of failure We live with a fear of being judged by people And it is THIS fear that drives us away from our loved ones That’s the story of every relationship these days His mistakes reminded me of a few mistakes that I had committed in life a few years ago And talking to him reminded me of my college days and a few incidents that left an indelible mark on my psyche A few incidents that really changed my outlook and perception towards life A few beautiful moments that would never return in life and A few beautiful experiences that taught me my first major lesson in life On that fateful and freezing night of 26th December I shared my recollections of memories with him And would like to share it with you too Till Then.....
