Hi there and welcome to the first episode of Fab&Vivien around the world.
I am Fab and this is ehh Vivien.
Hi I am Vivien!
We just started our world trip, which includes a series of crazy bets!
The bets, it´s gonna be crazy and I´ll explain it to you right now:
This is their mission:
Going to Asia, Latin America and Africa,
visiting small grassroots projects and raising money for them
with the support of the global internet community.
How?
Fab & Vivien combine fundraising and music with a crazy bet:
For every 10€ which are donated,
they need 1 person to sing with them in a mass performance.
The more money will be donated, the more people they have to find.
If they won’t make it, a penalty awaits them.
Want to see us jumping from a high cliff? Sleep on a scary cemetery?
Then just donate a little bit more money
Do a little bit more good, and have big laugh if we have to fulfill the penalty.
Fab&Vivien will make a video, show it to the global Internet community
and ask for a small donation.
To handle the donations, the two friends work together with betterplace.org
the large online donation platform.
On betterplace, each project is represented by its own donation page.
Donating is absolutely safe, takes a few seconds
and 100% of the money is forwarded.
An African saying says:
“When many little people, in many little locations, take many little steps,
they can change the world!”
Fab&Vivien believe in this vision.
Be part of the movement!
Follow us – and make the world a better place.
So let´s see how we came up with this.
The last years in berlin I was basically sitting behind computer screens,
doing things like “web development with ruby on rails”, caring about “code
quality”, “search engine optimization” and “online marketing”. Meanwhile, I
was checking my facebook and my email account way to often. When I wasn´t
working you could usually find me in some Berliner bar, club or park, hanging
out with my friends, playing the guitar, and drinking beer. Life was pretty
good, very hedonistic, and I had nothing to worry about”.
But I somehow had this feeling, that I wanted to use my skills to contribute to
something with a higher purpose, and I didn’t know what until one day I went
on a trip to morocco, where I met Monir…
Sitting on a viewpoint at the northern tip of tangier, 26 year old Monir told me
that only his body was in morocco, but that his mind was dreaming of a better
life in europe. He said that no matter what he´d do, he´d never find a decent
work and would never be able to feed a family in his country.
Every night Monir goes to the harbor in tangier and watches out for trucks
transporting goods to Europe. He would then try to attach himself below one
of them and remain there until reaching Spain. There, Monir would crawl from
below the truck and run, run and run to a new life.
Of course I read about stories like these before, but reading them wasn´t the
same as listening to it from Monir firsthand. Back in Germany I felt like my
life had not much to do with how most of the inhabitants on this planet live,
I wanted to get more involved, learn more from people like Monir. I was full
of formal, western education, now I was looking for a new teacher, and so I
signed up for a hands on PHD program in “The streets and people from the
world”.
My research proposal: Learn and share my newly gained knowledge over the
web and give something back to the people who teach me- by raising funds for them
My proposal was gratefully accepted and so Fab&Vivien was born.
I believe it´s experiences of being alive which make you rich
and not what you have in your pocket.
And so we started!
Let´s go!
From Berlin went to Cologne and from Cologne to Switzerland, where we jumped into the river Rhine.
Why?
♪ ♫ Because life begins at the end of your comfort zone ♪ ♫
We passed through france. We ate outside, worked outside, slept outside and
learned french...eh inside.
But then, in Granada España everything changed.
We have a little problem and we need your help.
Because we approached a few projects in Morocco but people didn´t
really get back to us, so if you have any suggestions, contacts of people
you know, interesting small grassroots projects, please drop us a line at
mail@fabandvivien.com
Also if you have any idea of...
Oh my god!!!
Vivien!
Oh my god? What is this?
A message:
"Dear Fabian, how can you make the world a better place?,
Find out, and Vivien will be back".
And there I was, no car, no Vivien, all hat was left of her was this doll.
I had to go to Morocco somehow, to meet Monir again, but I didn´t know how. I
was stuck in Granada, and completely on my own.
♪ ♫ Ohhhh mama, can this really be the end? ♪ ♫
