We have Francis, who's an interior designer and contractor....
Shannon, the real estate agent and decorator....
Mark, who's in architecture....
and two women who work with metal--
Inez, a welder, and Torche, a metal artist.

We have David, the landscape architect....
Brett, who's in real estate...
Monica, an interior designer...
Oliver, who works at an architectural firm...

It's got three bedrooms, two bathrooms,
and is 1,400 square feet.
Three-bedroom houses in this area range in value

it's fantastic because the more you can fix, the more you can up the value.
What's your main focus for this place?
Oh, well--all of it?
[laughter]
(Drew) Yeah, pretty much.
My team--they are go-getters.
However, there's a lot of work but not a lot of budget or time.
So that's their challenge.
We were talking about extending hardwood floors throughout
the whole house to make it feel a little bit more expansive.

(Christy) Oliver's doing the kitchen,
David is doing flooring and tiling,
Monica is doing main living area,
and I am doing overall finishing and decor.
Bam! Got it.
Yes! Let's do that.
So, I'm really impressed with the team at this point.
We're all getting along, and we're all working together.

Hello! Guys, I'm back!
What's up?
They actually made some really smart changes in the space,
so I think at this point, we need to bust it out.
Now I'm concerned-- I'm doing everything I can
to get done what needs to get done.
The living room and the dining room...
I really want them to have a very inviting and very welcoming look,
but I'm getting a little concerned.
There's no furniture in the entire house, the staging has to be done.
We have a lot of details to get to.
We should really step it up, so I'm going to tackle
the surround around the bathtub.
David did such a good job
helping Monica out on the fireplace surround
that I asked him to help me at the last minute.
That looks amazing--Dave!
(Brett) Hopefully it's enough to make this house
increase value over Team Jonathan's.
We have 4 hours from this time right now.
We have 4 hours, that's it.
We're racing to finish the pantry, but the kitchen is really far behind.
We're gonna do just this left wall, two shelves above the freezer, on the right side.
We're all just running around, pretty chaotic.
Who put that there?
The box spring to the master bedroom is now floating in the pool,
and Shannon's running around picking out carpet tiles.
(Shannon) Hi! I called about these floor tiles.
Mmhm.
Oh my gosh, I love it!
The raffia color.
I'm just gonna move the shelves.
(Francis) Yeah, go for it.
I love it--it looks just like sisal!
It does.
Shannon's out shopping,
and the house is not anywhere near finished.
Okay, talk to me.
Francis was busy in the kitchen, so I went in to help him get the paint on the wall.
As I'm starting to apply this paint,
I'm kind of freaking out, because it's a very bold color.
What's up with the green color?
That's the kitchen color.
We have a problem-- that paint is hideous.
I'm back! I've got the carpet tile-- it looks so good!
Wonderful!
Shannon--don't you have work to do, sweetheart?
I do, I do.
Hey.
How we doin'?
Not bad--how are you guys doin'?
So, we're really makin' moves here.
What is with the color?
That's not the color we originally talked about.
It's gonna make this kitchen alive, trust me.
The color of the wall in the kitchen-- that is awful!
This is not a Caribbean-theme makeover that we're doing here.
I don't think that's a color I would have chosen.
Okay, guys-- there's 30 minutes left.
We are only focusing on stuff that is improving the property value.
If we don't finish this kitchen,
(Francis) Watch your fingers.
someone's going home.
Good.
Go, go, go, go, go!
It is all hands on deck.
Okay, I might use one of these on the bed-- you already have a throw.
Go for it.
Okay, good.
Okay, guys-- ten...nine...eight...
(Drew and Jonathan) Seven..six... five...four...
three...two...
One--guys that is the end of the work.
The challenge is over-- come on in here.
Good job--good job, guys.
[murmuring together]
I'm glad you guys worked together.
Tomorrow is gonna be a hard day,
because we have a leading real estate expert who will be judging us
on how much value we've added to the house.
If we lose, that means one of you guys are going home.
I hope this is enough.
(Monica) I hope it is.
Which brother are you rootin' for?
Visit hgtv.com/brothers to vote for your favorite brother.
Hey, Mike!
How are you guys? Good to see you.
You saw the befores-- you excited about the afters?
I cannot wait to see what these teams have done to these houses.
(Drew) Mike Aubrey is a renowned real estate expert,
and today he's gonna be judging our teams' houses.
All right.
Pretty dramatic difference, but I want to see something
that really creates dollar value add.
Then let'*** the kitchen.
You got it.
Looks pretty nice in here.
(Jonathan) So before, the cabinets were falling apart, there was no breakfast bar.
Now you feel how bright it is, and that's the countertops,
the beautiful porcelain tile, the backsplash, brand new range.
(Mike) This new range is a huge value add--
the five-burner top makes this a fun kitchen to be in.
The tile backsplash is phenomenal--I love it.
I love that you love it-- do you love it?
I don't love the fact that I can see there's added value in this kitchen.
But the problem is this is
the ugliest paint I have ever seen in my life.
But--just the paint color is not gonna drastically devalue the kitchen.
(Jonathan) The value is in the cabinets.
It is a spacious kitchen-- now having the breakfast bar, that adds a lot to it, as well.
A ton.
Yeah, and actually, a really, really good thing
is the fact that now we have this massive walk-in pantry.
Before, they had the laundry here.
We've now closed this off and moved the laundry
to the back of the house, where it should be.
(Mike) That's terrific.
And this is all pure storage.
And this becomes a huge value add to the house
because it makes the house so much more functional.
(Jonathan) I agree.
Let's move on-- there are other areas of disappointment in this home.
Now you remember how cold this back room felt.
It had that ugly tile-- this is an improvement.
Definitely--it warms the space up, but...
what's this space for?
(Drew) And actually, that's my question, too.
This should've been an office, this could've been an even nicer seating area.
There's so many things they could've done.
But the most important thing for me was to move the laundry here.
That is a much more functional layout for where you should have the laundry.
I will admit-- I know this is adding value.
This is hard for Drew.
Yeah, this is hard for me to say.
I mean, this is a big winner.
(Jonathan) Well, let's look at the bathroom.
(Jonathan) This is an improvement.
(Jonathan) Now, this bathroom was awful--
you had that terrible tile on the floor.
There was a tiny mirror, the color was bad,
and now, you have
what looks like a beautiful retro bathroom.
The work that's been done in here makes a big difference to the space.
Well, you've got the floating vanity-- I really like the feature
with the stainless steel backsplash matching the fronts on these drawers.
They look beautiful, but it would've been nice to see newer drawers.
I think they look like new, and I think that I'm fine.
Master bedroom.
Now, the master bedroom-- it was a total mess.
The parquet flooring was all in shambles.
There was a door over there leading to the kid's bedroom,
so that's been sealed over, and then this was a closet
in here that just did not work.
I see additional dollar signs in here, but this space,
compared to the other spaces you've showed me, it seems very builder-grade to me.
I think you're gonna like what my team did--why don't we look at my house?
You got it-- lead the way.
(Drew) Come on in.
This space was overcrowded, it was dirty.
The tiling around the fireplace-- it was awful.
(Mike) Staging-wise, I think that they've done a lot,
and I like what they've done around the mantel and around the fireplace.
It really is an incredible transformation
from what it was the last time I saw it.
Let's shift over to the dining room.
This is a defined space-- it makes me feel like I wanna sit down.
(Drew) The table used to be cramming this space.
Now we have a nice-sized dining room table,
and they even updated the lighting.
Check out this kitchen.
Show me.
Wow! Now this is
a dramatic change.
Before--dated, dingy.
I mean, this is a different space.
They used really low-profile, flush-mount lights up here,
which makes it feel bigger in here.
This is a huge dollar sign difference for this house.
Well, it's not that big.
Oh, come on, come on-- you can say it.
This room makes me sweat-- it makes me sweat a little bit.
Why don't we shift over to the master bedroom
and see what Christy did in there?
(Mike) Wow!
It was very cluttered before-- you had workout equipment,
the closet was overflowing...
at least now it's cleaner.
(Mike) Now that's a different closet.
I don't know how much it adds in terms of real dollars,
but it makes me wanna live here more.
I think you're being gentle, because this is not a color
I would've chosen for the walls-- it's boring.
(Drew) Now this bathroom before-- it was dark.
The tile and the grouting-- it was worn, it was dated.
(Jonathan) The thing for me, though, is the peel and stick tiles don't add value.
(Mike) No, I mean, the real value add in this space is
the fact that they did the glass tiles over the bathtub,
that they replaced the vanity, as well.
It's not huge , but it's not zero.
Okay.
Boom.
Well, now that you've seen the whole house, would you agree that I have the edge?
I wanna go crunch some numbers, I wanna try to really put
some empirical analysis on this whole thing that I've seen,
and then my intent is to see you guys and your teams individually tonight.
Sounds good.
All right, talk to you later on.
All right, see you--bye.
Go easy on Drew.
You got it.
Yeah.
Well, in the end-- it's up to Mike, so hey, put her there.
May the best dressed brother win.
[laughs] Always with the pranks.
Coming up...
Was that enough?
It's intense right now-- we have to win this.
(Narrator) Here's a renovation comparison brought to you by autotrader.com.
On "Brother vs. Brother", there are many ways to increase property value.
A dramatic black floor tile can take a bathroom from worn to wow,
and mosaic glass tiles can turn a dull bathtub into textured tranquility.
A side-by-side comparison shows how both can really increase the value of a home,
but which adds more to the bottom line?

Hey!
Hello, teacher.
Grab a seat-- what are you thinkin' right now?
We fought like Greeks in the Trojan War, Jonathan.
[laughter]
Yes, you did.
I have to say-- I'm proud of you guys.
I went through both houses with Drew and the judge,
and it's gonna be close.
Guys, I would like to introduce you to my friend--
this is Mike Aubrey, and if there is anybody
who is qualified enough to come in and tell us
what these places are worth, it would be Mike.
What you did in three days is impressive.
Going through the house, I saw a lot of things
that I really liked, and I certainly saw
some things I didn't like.
Bring it on!
The kitchen is phenomenal.
I love the cabinets, the tile backsplash is amazing.
Unfortunately, the color on the kitchen walls
was absolutely hideous.
I think the word hideous is a very strong word.
Could I do a beige and stay neutral and blah?
It's not me-- I put my signature in this house.
I mean, I appreciate your signature,
but I'm all about adding value to this house.
You guys did some great stuff in the master bedroom,
but I think what you're gonna get for, you know, return on your investment
is that pantry off the kitchen.
That makes that a far more usable kitchen now.
Who did the bathroom?
I gotta be honest--I thought the bathroom was phenomenal.
Thank you very much.
I just knew that choosing to do the bathroom alone, I was gonna succeed or fail.
Nothing risked, nothing gained.
That's right.
Now, having said all that, we started with a house
that was worth $340,000.
I think the property could be listed tomorrow...
for $380,000.
[clapping and laughter]
(Francis) Wow!
Nice work.
Three days, and $40,000 of equity added,
so that's an amazing job.
The question is, was that enough?
It's intense right now-- I don't want my team to lose.
I don't wanna send somebody home.
We have to win this.
How's it going, guys?
Hey, Mike--Mike Aubrey, I trust his opinion,
and I know he knows what value is.
Judgement time here-- I have butterflies in my stomach,
and I'm just totally nervous.
All right, let's get right to it.
The fireplace looks great, the kitchen in this house...
phenomenal.
Hands down, I love it.
I love the countertops, I love the cabinets--
using, sort of, those flush-mounted, very low-profile lights
took a galley-style kitchen, which is a tough place to make look big,
and it looks bigger than it was.
In terms of what you did in the bathroom--
I like the mosaic tile around the tub.
On the flip side, I'm not really in love with the peel and stick tile.
Master bedroom-- this is not
a great value-add room in this house.
I don't know that I love the color choice in there.
The house was worth $282,000.
Now, after all of the work that you've done,
was it enough to beat Team Jonathan?
[suspenseful music]
The answer is...
The house was worth $282,000.
Now, after all of the work that you've done,
was it enough to beat Team Jonathan?
[suspenseful music]
The answer is...
it was--you guys won.
[cheering]
(Drew) Good job, guys--well done.
Oh my gosh.
I think the house should be listed right now
for $332,000.
Wow!
You guys added $50,000 in equity with your investment.
Team Jonathan added $40,000.
Really great job, guys.
(Monica) That is huge!
And then, I am thinking about what's going on at Team Jonathan.
Was that enough?
The answer is...
it was not.
Oh!
Unfortunately, their kitchen renovation
was better than this kitchen renovation
and that's why they added more value.
Unfortunately, I have to eliminate somebody.
Now, Francis--the paint color in the kitchen,
that's one of the reasons why you're going to be on the chopping block today.
It's okay-- when Tchaikovsky wrote "Swan Lake",
everybody criticized it really badly,
and it's the only melody you can think of when you think of ballet.
But we're raising the property values,
and the way you do that is by making it appeal to the majority of buyers' tastes.
Shannon--you're gonna be the other person on the chopping block tonight.
Oh my gosh, okay.
You spent too much time trying to decide on your colors and your textures.
Yeah.
And the sunroom, too, was a space that had no definition.
This isn't easy, but I have made up my mind.
Francis...
You're gonna be safe,
Oh my goodness.
as long as you start to make some of the decisions that work for the better of the team.
So Shannon--today, you'll be going home.
Okay--thank you so much for the opportunity.
It was a big pleasure working with you.
I'm pretty shocked.
I feel like I did a good job, but it's been such a great experience,
and I wouldn't have traded it for the world.
We have an even bigger task ahead of us, because there's only four of us,
and there's five on the other team.
Go get some rest, because I know this has been tough.
Thank you.
Thanks, Jonathan.
Congratulations.
Why, thank you, sir.
You know what? Your team did a good job,
but hey, I guess my team did a little bit better.
Can I make you feel any better by buying you a drink?
I thought you were going to say something sarcastic.
Yes, I will take a drink-- you're probably gonna forget your wallet, though.
It's never easy to let someone go, but...
it's the nature of the competition.
Oh, wow!
Oh my God!
Oh, I love that!
Oh-ho-ho...no way!
Whoa! Wow!
Oh my God!
(Husband) This is totally awesome!
No way!
[exclamations of surprise]
Oh, look at this-- I always wanted one like that.
Wow!
We call this our "Weekend Warrior" challenge.
You only have 48 hours to complete the work.
We have 48 hours? This house is huge!
Tension's rising.
No, no, no!
We all agree on it!
I mean, this is insane!
