Alastair Smeaton: You are very welcome this morning to Dublin City Library and Archive
where we launch our Dublin: One City, One Book programme for 2010, and as I'm sure you
are well aware by now our choice for this year is Oscar Wilde's 'The Picture of Dorian
Gray'.
Merlin Holland: Delighted to be here in Dublin as I always am and I wish the whole month
the very greatest success. And once again thank-you all for being here and thank-you
for doing me the honour and vicariously Oscar the honour of choosing his book.
Lord Mayor, Councillor Emer Costello: He's an author and dramatist and poet who is very,
very dear to so many of the hearts of all Dubliners. And I think there is a special
place here in Dublin for Oscar Wilde. So it is particularly appropriate and timely that
we do actually celebrate Oscar Wilde in the One City One Book.
The only difference between a caprice and a life-long passion is that a caprice lasts
a little longer.
Basil Hallward: "I see you appreciate my work at last Dorian. I never thought you would"
Dorian Gray: "Appreciate it? I'm in love with it"
