Ever since Disney bought the Star Wars franchise, the series has gone some changes in tone and rhythm
The expanded universe was retconned and vanished into oblivion
the clothes of Pricess Leia in the beginning of episode VI were censored
and Disney has been executing its plan of one new Star Wars a year.
The giant of American animation has been really careful to not make mistakes,
and for that it is doing its homework,
reproducing the art and taste of the classic Star Wars movies in the new ones.
For some time, there was a rumour in the internet hat they could even delete
the episodes I, II and III from the official timeline
but all of this does not save the new owner from making mistakes in its new movies,
and even though I am a fan of the francuise, I won't ignore these mistakes.
For this reason,
I decided to present the "5 things I didn't like about the movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story"
One - Unnecessary characters
Many characters in the movie had forgettable roles
and are only there to justify the complicated plot.
Jyn's mom who is only there to die,
her father that only exists to justify why it was so easy to destroy the Death Star in the next movie,
The pilot that is there just to pass Gale's message to the rebels, etc.
How bad is it for the movie is questionable, but it gets to bigger level
when we are presented to the "great rebel" Saw Gerrera.
Introduced as a great character, with a big role for the resistence,
the extremist leader is in the movie only to receive the message from Gale and die miserably,
never showing why he was known as a great rebel.
Two - Moff Tarkin CGI face
WHen I saw Tron: Legacy for the first time, Jeff Bridges's CGI face seemed perfect.
However, in Rogue, commander Moff Tarkin's CGI wasn't even close to that.
As if it was taking from a recent Ubisoft Assassin's creed game,
His face moved in anusual ways, what was really distracting, and also quite ugly.
It seems Disney has followed the path of George Lucas and used CGI carelessly.
Three - useless plot details
The same way characters were used as simple plot devices, without any trace of personality,
plot elements were used as a way to make the movie longer
what is unnecessary for a story written to cover plot holes.
They needed to receive a message in a planet, and take it somewhere else to see the engineer
and go to another planet, to be refused support, and go to the next, etc
It gets worse in the final suicidal battle, when they need to steal the Death Star blue print,
turn on the energy to amplify the signal,
do a manual transmission, destroy the barrier, and so on and on,
and all of that is explained and shown step by step.
What would Han Solo do in a situation like this?
Who is there? What's you operating number?
Four - dissapointing music
One of the most memorable things about Star Wars is it amazing soundtrack
that for decades have been dictating the tone in the series and in the fans memories.
Despite this awesome musical history,
the new movie followed the example of modern movies like the Marvel ones,
and chose a weaker soundtrack, and purely for background.
Most of the time it isn't even possible to listen to the music, due to the big and boring dialogs.
The few moments that the music can be heard and have some weight,
are when a piece of the original Star Wars sound track is played,
but they are so short, that gives a feeling of dissapointment instead of nostalgia.
Five - The villain
of all the points that seemed wrong to me in this movie, the villain is maybe the worst.
A villain in a Star Wars movie needs to measure up against big charecters
like Darth Vader, Lord Sidius, Boba Fet, and many more,
not only that, but in this movie there are three characters that could be called villain,
fighting for our attention and for the screen time:
Darth Vader, Moff Tarkin and the poor Orson Krennic
and in this fight, the latter lost in all points.
His role in the plot is at best unnecessary, at worst dissapointing.
From the start of the movie he is betrayed, deceived, was shot, strangled,
loses his rank and is threatened by his officials.
His only action scene in the movie is a generic shooting in the communicartions tour in the end of the movie.
In his dialogs, he never shows any charisma and personality,
nor any other trait hat could justify his position as the villain of the movie alongside the handicapped Sith.
and this way, the end of this character seems more like a metaphor of its future:
to be vaporized for ever from the memory of the Star Wars fans, without leaving any mark.
These were the weak points of the movie in my opint of view,
but don't think that everything I say is the absolute truth.
