Water became something I was using a lot because water started to come back, thinking of floods
and how beautiful water can be. How you can have so much pleasure in water like swimming,
and going to the lake, and just looking at it; but it also is so dangerous too. It can
wipe out a community; it could ruin your property and your home and take away a lot. So the
forces of nature are really important in my work. I guess in 1997, when I was still in
high school, we had done a lot of sandbagging because a lot of people were losing their
home in South East in Manitoba. There was a huge flood and I guess that always stayed
in my mind. The force of nature and force of water; but how beautiful it can be, how
dangerous it is as well. So there is always these opposing forces in a lot of my work,
which is really true to life. We could go through difficult moments in our life, really
struggle through difficult times but in the end you come out and realize, "Wow! I had
to go through this." Even if it's something so serious or so hard at the time, you think
you'll never get out of it, or why are certain things happening but in the end you realize;
"I've become stronger and I've grown."
