sorry, had issues editing with iPad
So whats your manga called?
Nyanko Drop
About how long did it take to draw it?
Well the ne-mu (story board) took three months
and then the actual manga took another month
So about four months then?
Right
How many pages was it?
24 pages
About how many pages do you think is good to
be sure your story comes together well?
Well I do love stories, so.. with love stories
you have to go into the characters psychology, etc.
so I think you need at least 24 pages
So then could you do like 100 pages then?
ah but, it`s not good if it gets too long either
so maybe 24 to 50 pages?
For shojo manga maybe up to 40 pages would be good
So lastly do you think you could give a word of advice
for people looking to become manga-ka?
well I haven`t debuted yet, so you can
take my advice for what`s it worth, but..
if you keep drawing I think you`ll improve
and you can get better and better with the story too
so let`s all work hard together
Thank you
Well you may not have debuted yet,
but I think you`re doing a real good job
(nervous laugh)
and the lack of BGM continues.
look at the pretty pictures
look look :P
ok so what is this piece titled?
'Ikusa' or in English it would be 'Battle'
What project did you do this for?
Well this.. I wonder if I can say?
maybe it`s under non-disclosure?
well I guess it`s allright
it`s a design for a fairly large company`s arcade game
which will be coming out soon
and this is the characters equipment, armor, and so forth
So we draw these designs here
and the 3D modeling will be based off of this
so eveything has to be done quite detailed
And you received a reward for this right?
Yes, that`s correct
So what was the hardest part of drawing this?
Well I had to pic a pose that would fit in the design
I chose this one because it has a strong impact
And lastly can you give some advice particularly to
people abroad who are interested in the Japanese game field
What is it like here? what should they do to get into the field?
Well first off, you`d have to be able to speak Japanese
Communication is important, and the job is all done in Japanese
Would there be a translator or interpreter?
No, not really
Of course being able to speak English would be a strength
but if you can`t speak Japanese as well you wouldn`t be able
to really fit as an employee
So just learn Japanese ;)
So even just having knowledge from overseas may be a plus
but you have to have knowledge of Japan and how things work here as well
Yes that`s right. FPS games and Open world games and other overseas
games have become more popular but games geared for overseas and
games geared for Japanese are still different
and that`s probably not just the language,
but the drawing style and so forth as well
Yes definitely.
Japan tends to focus on the character in a more major way
and so you`d have to study what kind of character is a hero
for a Japanese audience and what kind of character feels like a protagonist, etc
How can I say? Game and Manga and Anime are very similar here
and so Japanese games tend to focus on characters in a similar way
I see, so Anime maybe a good way to learn then
Yeah, and you can study Japanese that way to
ok and finally let`s hear what your favorite anime is
I like Digimon the best
and me and my Card Game
