Hello, now it is time for the weekly start-up talk again, here from the incubator at AAU.
Today we have Sportslevels here, and please tell us who you are and what you are doing
Well my name is Sebastian and i am one of the co-founders of Sportslevels and our product - we are developing right now
Is called ref-level which is a smartwatch application for football referees and what it does is simply that we try to replace pen and paper
We try to replace digital watches that can only display the time and we try to replace fitness trackers
And all of these devices we want to combine into one service called ref-level which is cheaper, faster and smarter than tradionally droids
Alright, how did you come up with this idea?
It was my co-founder Rimon who is a referee himself, and about one year ago he faced problems during games forexample in rainy weather
When he takes notes on his paper, he faced problems that the ink would blur and as he is a software developer he thought it could be cool to write an app for smartwatches
A smartwatch is the ideal device for sports anyways, so this is how we started the idea
And how did you become a part of it?
We all met in our studies which are called entreperneurial engineering here at AAU and basically he just started with Antvus another friend first and later asked me if i wanted to join
And from then on it started to roll, we got into the incubator we have a light demo version of the product, and we are about to go live with our product
We have good connections with our focus-group and they seem to like it, so ye it is growing
And how does it work, how much time do you use on the company and when do you meet and where do you meet
So we have one problem if you wanna call it like that we are facing, and that is that Rimon and Antvus are living in Aarhus
And the rest of the team in Aalborg, so that makes it only possible for us to meet two times a week here in Aalborg at the incubator and the remaining 3 times per week
We work from home, ofcause if there is something special going on, we meet more often but this is how we do it on a regular basis
Okay, and how much time do you use per week
It depends a little bit on if there is something really important coming up, of cause we are all working very hard and also in the weekends but i would say usually we try to stick to 37 hours per week
And we try to a normal rythem where we start around 9 o clock and untill 4 or 5 pm
Okay, and you also have your studies beside?
Ye exactly, but we are one our master thesis semester and in three months we will be done, so right now we dont have any classes going on, it is just the master thesis we are writing
Alright, and i know you four or five people in the team? How do you swap the tasks between you and do you have a different kind of primary tasks or
Or different roles in the company?
So we have a monday meeting, every week where we engourage everybody to have a short pitch about their last week; what has been done, what did we learn, where did we face problems
Or just some ideas we want to discuss and if anybody wants, they can talk about it for a minute or two and we also set monthly goals to see if we doing good on time
Or do we need to reconsider things, also we are a start-up so it is not always possible to completely plan ahead as our environment changes a lot and we find other things that makes changes necessary
And it is not completely static but we try to cummunicate as much as possible and we also try to work in a way where everybody atleast has a little understanding about what the others are doing
So trying to avoid working sideways and communicating a lot
That is the approuch that we found works best
And sharing the knowledge between eachother? Ye
Alright, if you should give any advice for a 3 or 5 semester student who has an idea and perhabs wants to an entrepreneur in some way, what could that be?
Well i think if you have an idea and you want to turn it into a startup i can only engourage everybody, and i would that one of the coolest things is dont work alone
But do it together with other people, for several reasons, i think that the good but also the bad moments are more enjoyable to share if you share those moments with friends
But i also think that people are different and there is no such things as one person is always right or always know, so even if it might lead to a conflict
Once in a while it is a very healthy process to talk about your thoughts and consider things in your teams, i think this a very important thing to do
And finding people who can help you and also the sheer amount of work is more divided, this is the advice i would give everybody
Thank you very much for participating, and that was the weekly start-up talk if you have a suggestion who to talk with or what to ask them, write a comment underneath and see you next week!
