Prison Diary(a)
Day 9
Just had the most amazing run up in Quicksilver.
A huge, trail filled park in South San Jose.
Oak trees,
a creek,
golden grasses covering the rolling hills
View of San Jose and Campbell
It is one of my favorite places.
I grew up running there.
My wife and I used to go on walking dates after work.
Just a long walk in the afternoon,
as the skies are shifting from bright blues to reds and purples.
No one up there but us,
the trees, and the rolling hills.
It's nearly perfect up there.
We got engaged and married up in the hills.
There are a lot of different routes,
but the one I took
is over by my parents house.
There's about a quarter-mile entrance from the street to the actual park.
It's a tunnel of trees,
a puzzle of shadows and sunlight on the ground,
a ceiling of greens and blues to guide you in.
It is nothing but, peace and quiet, birds and light winds.
It was a great run.
About 30 minutes, or 20?
Who knows?
I left my watch at home.
I didn't want one.
I just wanted to be out there.
no restraints
The longer I am up here,
the longer I am out of there.
Eyes closed, light jog.
climbing up the hills, topping out at the reservoir.
a steep downhill until I am running along the creek.
the wind blowing through the trees
the creek rushing with water.
And then I stop,
Open my eyes slowly,
and the perfect golden, rolling, hills
the blues and greens,
come crashing down,
to the florescent lights,
and the cement walls
