Welcome to the 'Parc de la Tête d'Or', the 'Park of the Golden Head'!
Covering some 250 acres, it's one of the biggest urban parks in France, right in the centre of the city.
They say that when it was created in 1856, a head of Christ was buried away in the grounds:it was apparently made of gold.
It is still made use of nowadays - for motivating our gardeners!
There's a chance they might find this head of Christ during upkeep of the gardens.
The Parc de la Tête d'Or is famous for its international rose-garden;
there are, though, three rose-gardens in the park, including the show-garden in the Botanical Gardens which was set up in 1964.
Nearby, there are of course other interesting things to see.We have the leading botanical garden in France for the diversity of the species it holds:
There are almost 20,000 living species here,the park's zoo houses over 450 animals;
The African Plain is some six or seven acres where the animals are free to roam;
you can see zebras, giraffes, antelopes, lots of birds of course, and also the Madagascar lemurs.
Next door are the lions and panthers - quite rare examples of these species,
which are almost extinct in the wild.
The Parc de la Tête d'Or is the park of the people of Lyon,who call it

and there are also great wide-open lawns,all of which you can go and use.
Everyone can find the space to kick a ball about, to get away from it all, read a book, or to just look at the huge lake.
Some 17,000 visitors come to the park, throughout the year.
