We've decided to have a lazy, laid-back day today
'let's just go to a normal, Japanese bar for once' we thought
'show them ordinary life'.
This is a place with monkeys working as waiters
Our new besties.
It's located 60 miles outside of Tokyo,
and the name of the place is Kayabukiya Tavern,
In the city of Utsunomiya.
The place became famous as a first establishment in the world
... with the monkey waiters.
We were lucky enough to witness a special monkey extravaganza.
Their names are Fuku-chan,
... Yume-chan,
and Shibari-chan.
One is already in love with me.
The youngest one is definitely my favourite. She's wearing a strawberry-patterned dress.
I think we're actually the first people from Poland who ever came to this restaurant
and as such, we've been asked to leave here a message in Polish
for the monkeys. So they can read it in their own time.
The big one is 12 years old, the one wearing blue shirt.
This one will be 4 this year,
and this one 2, the little one.
They said it's...
They said the little one would be 6, in human years
so one monkey year is like three human years.
Literal monkey buisness.
It turns out there's a law in Japan regulating
how many hours are certain animals allowed to work.
For monkeys it's 2 hours tops.
Which is funny - I mean, the fact that such a specific monkey labour regulation even exists, is funny.
So the monkeys work the maximum of 2 hours a day
and it doesn't seem like hard labour
the atmosphere here is really nice, it's a small, family business
and you can tell the owner is really fond of those monkeys.
The monkey dressed in blue, Fuku-chan, as it turns out is pregnant
I asked whose baby is the little one, they said she's having a day off.
Complimentary styling services.
I might get in on the action.
I'm learning the local ways.
Here we go. I'm not sure what to think.
If it's a good sign.
Now you can see the reason behind this entire show,
it's not for us, people - just as was the case with the cats
it's for the food.
Now the monkey fortune telling.
That's a very well-known custom actually...
Monkey the psychic messenger...
Looks like the monkeys are totally my buddies
I got the best possible monkey fortune.
A fantastic place to visit with kids,
but for some reason all the kids here are afraid of the monkeys.
Those kids are absolutely terrified,
the only people having fun are proper elderly ones, like us.
Turns out I'm not the monkey king, after all.
We're leaving a message for the monkeys, they'll read it after they've had some rest.
[Fuku-chan, the time we spent together was tremendous, I can't wait for our next encounter. Love & Kisses]
[We are family, a big monkey family]
We've got to go, but the monkey wants to cuddle some more.
