>>KAT: Hi and welcome back to Kat’s Closet.
Now, half term is nearly upon us, so it’s time to ditch those January blues and get the kids all dress up for the holidays.
Today I have mum and blogger Claire Parkinson in the closet with me to chat about kid’s fashion and to get hers ready for half term.
Hi Claire, thanks so much for coming in, how are you?
>>CLAIRE: I’m fine thank you.
>>KAT: And who have you got with you?
>>CLAIRE: This is Alice, my daughter, and this is Harley.
>>KAT: So you actually have two blogs, tell me about that Claire.
>>CLAIRE: Firstly, I have a Boy With Asperger’s and Mummy of Many Talents where I mainly write about fashion and talk about kid’s clothes.
>>KAT: Is there anything you look out for particularly when shopping for kids clothes.
>>CLAIRE: It’s got to be well made, the price obviously, something that I can afford. Look for pretty florals, things like that for Alice.
Harley, jeans and nice knits.
>>KAT: Have you ever shopped at Matalan?
>>CLAIRE: We had a lot of clothes from Matalan in the summer.
They do a lot of multi-packs, things like that, especially for the t-shirts.
We got all the uniforms as well. I do love Matalan for the school uniforms as well, quality was really good and it washes up well.
>>KAT: Well, I’ve got some great ideas from Matalan’s brand new spring/summer range. If you wait here, I’ll just go and grab them.
So now I’ve picked out an outfit each for Harvey and Alice. Let’s start with Harley.
Nautical stripes are always a huge look for spring/summer for girls, guys and kids. And this is a really cute polo t-shirt.
It’s in a great cotton fabric which is going to be light weight and breathable and it’s got a lovely turquoise trim here.
Now mustard is a huge colour for spring/summer, but it isn’t an obvious choice for kids but actually offsets navies and blues brilliantly.
An obviously, it’s still a little bit chilly so I’m going to lay over a chunky cardigan, but again, the nautical stripes going through which means it works really well with a t-shirt.
I’m going to finish off the outfit with some trainers because they’re perfect for all little boys who love to run around.
Now for Alice.
I think Alice will look gorgeous in red, as it’s a really beautiful colour.
It comes with a little vintage inspired broche, which can actually come off if it’s not your thing and I think this t-shirt has that funky vibe that Alice will love.
It’s quite grown up, but it’s age appropriate.
She’s going to need some shoes, so I’m going to put some red patent ballet shoes. She’s not allowed to hear heels, so this will be the perfect choice.
So we have the kids in a couple of outfits, shall we see what they look like?
>>CLAIRE: Yeah, that will be great.
>>KAT: Come on out kids. Look at you two!
What do you think Claire?
>>CLAIRE: I love both outfits!
>>KAT: Let’s start with Alice, what do you think of this outfit?
>>CLAIRE: I like it, I love the colours, I like the shoes, they’re really nice. The material works well together and I love the jacket, it’s gorgeous, looks thicker than what it is so it will be really cool.
>>KAT: Red really suits you.
Do you think it’s an age appropriate outfit for Alice?
>>CLAIRE: Defiantly.
>>KAT: What do you think to the motif?
>>ALICE: I think it’s pretty and it looks like me.
>>KAT: And do you like the shoes?
>>ALICE: I like the coat and the shoes, yes.
>>KAT: What about for Harley?
>>CLAIRE: It’s obviously durable, he’s able to move about in it, the colours work really well together. I love the trousers, because he’s not worn mustard before.
And we got the chunky kit, but it’s not too warm so layering for the spring so it looks really nice.
He seems really comfortable in it.
>>KAT: Well I think they both look great. Bright and fresh and easy things to wear for half term.
So I hope that’s given you some great ideas for dressing the kids for this half term.
