Hello and welcome to this online tutorial on ‘Using the e-Library Catalog’s My Account
feature’ via the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library web site. My Account is a free
service of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library. In order to access it, all you need
is an internet connection, your library card number, and your 4-digit PIN access code.
If you do not have a PIN you can visit any library to establish one.
So how does it work? First you start at the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library homepage
located at buffalolib.org. Click on the ‘My Account’ link. From this screen there are
a few ways you can access the My Account feature. The easiest is to first click on ‘Review
Account’ link. Now fill out your library card and PIN numbers and then click ‘Display
User Information’. You know you are logged in if you see your first name in a welcome
message in the upper right corner of the screen.
At the top of this Review Account screen you will see a summary of any alerts related to
your account, like a card expiration warning, how many items you currently have checked
out, holds information, and if you own any fines. As you scroll down you can see what
specific items you have checked out and their due dates. If you would like to renew any
items, just the appropriate check box, then click on the ‘Renew Selected Items’. Read
the pop-up message and click the ‘OK’ button. Renewal information will be displayed.
You can click the ‘OK’ button to get back to the Review Account page. As you scroll
down you will see the updated due dates listed and how many times the items have been renewed.
As you continue to scroll down, if you have any Holds their availability status will be
listed and you can edit holds from here. You can cancel holds or change pick-up location,
expiration, or suspension dates for any outstanding holds. If we continue to scroll down any fines
or fees associated with your account will be shown. Item information is listed as well
as the reason for your bill, like if it was for placing a hold or a late item. You’ll
also see the amount and the date it was assessed.
You can pay bills online by clicking the ‘Pay bills with eCommerce’ button. A new window
will open and you’ll have to enter in your Library card number then click ‘submit’.
On the next screen click ‘Pay from Credit Card’. You then can enter your credit card
information and make a secure payment by clicking ‘submit’.
You can click on My Account anytime while you’re logged in to get to the My Account
main menu. Here there are direct links to renewing items, paying fines, and even changing
your PIN. To end your My Account session, look for ‘logout’ and then click it. Just
to let you know, you would be automatically logged out if there is no interaction with
the system for a few minutes.
The Buffalo and Erie County Public Library thanks you for watching this online tutorial
on ‘Using the e-Library Catalog’s My Account feature’.
