Thousands displaced by heavy rains in Sudan. Torrential rains and flash floods have swamped
villages, damaged hundreds of homes, destroyed classrooms, and downed electricity across
the nation. At least 27 people have perished in the states of Kassala, Red Sea, and South
Kordofan. In the southern state of Jonglei, more than 10,000 people were rendered homeless
in three counties, while some 2,000 homes have been damaged in El Daein. Darfur has
also been badly affected, with refugee camps across North and West Darfur states inundated.
Floods washed away over 125 homes in Zalingei camp as others lost numerous boxes of supplies,
causing many internally displaced people to lack sufficient blankets and food as they
face further flooding.
Conveying her heartfelt sorrow and prayers, Supreme Master Ching Hai asked that our nearby
Association members please go to render aid for the most vulnerable if possible, saying
that if it is not possible to go, funds are available to send to an aid organization already
working in the area.
Our appreciation for Supreme Master Ching Hai’s loving support as we pray for the
comfort of the bereaved and the soon restored stability of the storm-stricken people. May
such devastations be eased as we strive for greater benevolence toward all beings on Earth.
