Super Sentai is a franchise of television series, originally Japanese, created in 1975
The term Sentai is Japanese military origin, and it means "squad"
The views are annual, starting a new story and team, each one with a different theme.
Basically, it's a group of people who gain strength, skills, power and equipment when
they transform. Its mission. Rid the land of evil that can
come from outer space, under water, past, future, and even the Earth itself... well,
it depends on each story.
The first series of the genre was Goranger
But the term Sentai was first used in Battle Fever J, the third in the franchise, in 1979.
Generally, the squads start with 3 or 5 members in the team.
Each can be differentiated by their color, and usually use the primary, RED, BLUE AND YELLOW
But only in 1980, from the fourth serie on,
Denjiman, the uniforms were standardized by keeping the same shape and differentiating
each member of details and colors. As support, the heroes usually have a backing
team, a commander, a mascot and a base. And almost as a rule, red is always who leads
the group.
From 1992 with the appearance of Dragon Ranger,
in Zyuranger, begins a new phase for Sentai, where at some point in the series, one or
more new members enters to join the team. Before, the first squadron to have additional
members was Liveman, from 1988
But the first extra ranger, appeared in Maskman from 87, during only one episode
The extras usually differentiate the uniform and the transformations of the others, and
mostly keeps the same line as the team and each have their own big robot.
The mechas are robots that each team uses to fight the giant monsters that arise.
The first appeared in Battle Fever J.
But only in Denjiman, the first transformation occurred from a vehicle. Flashman, in 1986, comes Titan Junior, the
second robot. Maskman was the first to have a vehicle for
every hero thus form the robot In Jetman, from 1991, the third giant robot
appears. Thereafter, at every year, it can increase
the amount or join with one another in different gattais.
The Sentai were not only on display in Japan. With success, other countries imported the
series and changed the languages for their own.
In Brazil, few series have been displayed, but with a large audience. The first to come
was Changeman that opened the door for Goggle V, Flashman and Maskman, and other Japanese series.
In Europe, the acceptance was pretty good with Bioman, Turboranger, Jetman, Fiveman and Liveman.
Following the success of the series, every possible product line was launched, especially action figures,
vehicles, robots, all the same as seen in the video.
Also some CDs with stories, soundtrack, DVDS, and movies.
Anyway, today, everything is designed not only for TV, but for the sale of products
and marketing. In 1993, based on all the Zyuranger material,
the American producer Saban launched Power Rangers , an adaptation of Super Sentai series
for Western audiences. The success of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
season spawned a franchise that every year keeps the formula and takes as a basis from
the Sentais, chronologically. Who never ever heard ? "What is it, Power Rangers ?"
