This episode of Todd's kitchen is brought to you by San Remo, creating recipes for
the whole family.
Hello and welcome to Todd's kitchen
A while ago i did a Kit Kat and M&M cake and thats a very popular cake and its all over the internet right now
But i decided to make my own today, one i have never seen before so i decided to put my
thinking cap on and i came up with a new version . So join me today as i make
my version of a kit kat and M&M rainbow cake.
We are going to start this cake of by using a
round cake tin like this one
So you want the round one with the round
partition in the middle
So with this what cake we are going to do is cut it in half then we will have our half rainbow
and then there are two things you can do with this, after that you can make two
rainbow cakes
or you can double up in size so instead of being that tall, its going to be that tall
so for this recipe im going to use a standard butter cake. now i have made a butter cake before and i'll
leave a link at the end of this video and in the description
on how to make it
but feel free to use any type of cake
recipe that you like
so you want to use a chocolate cake, make a chocolate etc
But if you want to use a butter cake then just make this butter cake
okay so once this is done follow the cake directions of the recipe that you're making
but for this one im going to place into a preheated oven at a hundred eighty degrees celsius for
about forty minutes
just until when you touch it it springs back and when you stick in a wooded squire it comes out clean
So our cake is done and i had it cooling in the fridge for about an hour or so just so its
perfectly cool
So what we are going to do now is cut this in half
Then shape it a little bit
make this hole a little bit bigger
just so it forms a nice rainbow shape
So that is just what we are after, a nice half circle
and its going to be a perfect shape for our rainbow.
So for this next step we are going to make some cream cheese icing
So into a mixing bowl place in our cream cheese
now this is softened cream cheese as i have let it sit at room temperature for about an hour or so.
Now using a hand mixer or a stand mixer we are going to beat this on low
For about four minutes
just until it is nice and smooth and soft
As you can see it is nice and soft
So next we are going to add in some icing sugar
So we are going to do this to taste, so start with a cup of icing sugar
to start of
and let it mix in completely and until it is completely dissolved
and once it has been completely mixed through
we are going to taste it
if it taste fine we will leave it as is
But if you like it sweeter add some more icing sugar
So we have our rainbow shaped cake
So with our icing
and we are going to cover it up
on both sides, top
and on the sides
with this lovely cream cheese icing
Now that the icing has covered the cake
its not the prettiest back that makes no difference because its
all going to be covered up anyway. So for this next step we are going to use out M&M's
so it's very simple, just
starting of with one side
using the one colour
we are going to start making our
rainbow colors on the cake
So we have done all the M&M's
and already it's looking pretty spectacular
so now before we put the Kit Kat's on
what we are going to do is place this in the fridge for about half an hour
and i that half an hour that cream cheese is going to start to harden up a bit because at the moment its still to soft
to stick kit kats on there but once that cream cheese starts to harden up its going to be
allot easier for the kit kats to stick to the cake
So next we are going to use out kitkats. No i have just brought a couple of family size blocks
it works out a bit cheaper
If this was the double size cake then just use the full length kit kat
but because its only one layer i have got a kit kat
and just cut it in half
So do it into two lots like so
by having it into two layer kit kats like so
it just makes it easier to cut in between
so its just a simple matter of grabbing our kit kats
and just sticking them
just on the outer edge
and we are going to do that all the way around
And there we have it, the finished product
and i'll tell you what
this cake looks fantastic. Now the main reason why i wanted to use the cream cheese
icing instead of chocolate icing
is simply because when you put the M&Ms on top if you have it a dark colour
the colours aren't going to stand out as much as they will on a white icing
background
Now allot of you are going to be asking, how do we cut this up?
as i said, make the kit kats into two's.
so you just cut between them
The only place i have used three is just on the front part here.
So this cake is very simple to make
But it is also very
very colourful and affective
Now you're not going to eat the whole thing by yourself
i really highly recommend you don't
So when you have it at a party
cut it into small pieces and the kids will love it
so if you have a large piece or a small piece
This M&M and kit kat rainbow cake is going to taste simply delicious.
