ANDREW HAMMOND: Where traditional saddles can cause
soreness and numbness from excessive pressure on
sensitive nerves and arteries, body geometry saddle designs
have the power to reduce or eliminate that problem
altogether.
Medical doctor ergonomic design Dr. Roger Minkow was
the first person to present solutions for saddle pressure.
He helped us develop the specific shapes, contours, and
cutouts you'll find in our saddles today.
ROGER MINKOW: The pressure from non-ergonomic bicycle
saddles for male riders has been studied for years.
When someone sits on a non-ergonomic saddle, it
causes pressure, and the pressure causes a reduction in
blood flow.
When the blood flow is reduced, the oxygen to the
tissues is reduced, and this causes the release of a
chemical factor in the blood.
The release of this chemical factor can cause the buildup
of scar tissue, which can lead to erectile dysfunction.
ANDREW HAMMOND: Blood flow testing and real-time pressure
mapping helped us design body geometry saddles for men with
a precisely place center cutout to
greatly reduce pressure.
All BG saddles have been tested and proven to provide
the safest level of blood flow.
ROGER MINKOW: Female riders are subject to two problems.
The first is the same blood flow issue that men have.
And the second is direct perineal pressure.
The direct perineal pressure can cause urinary and ***
dysfunction for female riders.
ANDREW HAMMOND: Real-time pressure mapping also helped
us to design BG women's saddles with a central
hourglass cut away and beveled foam contours that measurably
reduce unwanted pressure and improve blood flow.
ROGER MINKOW: Every rider's anatomy is different, and no
one has the same width sit bones.
Because of this natural variation, the only way to
determine the right saddle size is to measure the width
of the rider's sit bones.
This measurement is then combined with the cyclist's
riding style to choose the perfect saddle.
ANDREW HAMMOND: Our sit bone measuring device is a simple
tool to deliver an accurate reading of a
rider's sit bone width.
It takes the guesswork out of saddles sizes.
Because saddle preferences will vary depending on the
type of rider, we have both performance-oriented saddles
in sizes 130, 143, and 155 and comfort-oriented saddles in
sizes 143 up to 220.
We recommend that riders go through a complete BG fit.
But choosing the right saddle is the first step to
comfortable ride.
