It (Bookshare) really levels the playing field.
So my students with dyslexia.
I've had students cry in the classroom because they can't read and they don't
want to read.
You know "hop on pop" they don't want to read that kinda of book -- even though it may
be easier to read -- they really want to read the "Diary of a
Wimpy Kid" -- that their friends are reading.
Bookshare helps them to be able to do that.
It gives them them that access.
It almost removes the barriers that you see in
older students where they just stopped, When you give them a book, they say, "I'm not going to read it!"
But, when you introduce it (digital accessible books) at a younger age, it really
gets them into reading and makes it more of a lifelong habit.
One parent in particular really
was not on the audio book train. They didn't want to do audio books.
They are like my child/student doesn't like audio books. They just don't want to do it.
Once I showed them Bookshare and walked them through it
they were really more into it. They saw
what it was about and how it could really help their child/ student progress.
