Hi, I'm Jim Harmer from ImprovePhotography.com
and I am in Hawaii
and today we are shooting the sunset here. And to be honest, the sunset was a little bit
lackluster
because it went behind clouds just at the last second but i wanna show you some other
things that I've learned
to make a photo at the beach where you don't necessarily have as much to work
with
first of all is choosing the right location we
found this spot because I really liked the point out here with the rocks in the
palm trees
that i saw earlier in the day and that's what brought us back
to shoot the sunset but the Sun
set straight out that way--not behind the rocks
and the trees which I you know sometimes that can really growing up but
a lot of times the best colour the Sun set it up right where the Sun is its to
the side so that's all right that it went behind
let's go up now and find something that a lot a little bit more
interest to the shot because if we just shoot the ocean ocean
and the sunset sometimes it'll be okay but i don't know that's gonna look like a
snapshot since there's not much composition hapening.
there so we're gonna walk along the beach and see if we can find something a
little bit more inches
I like
here with the algae growing on the rocks it's just %uh
it just has a lot more entrants and I like that we're looking
down the stuff each year and seeing all the
and Austin palm trees I got fat only to stir the photo I think it's a little bit
more interesting than just looking straight out into the Sun
now one cool thing as you watch these waves
is they splash up an all white water recedes
I just really like that I use that a lot in photos so
let's get my camera settings. I'm gonna shoot in manual mode
I'm set to shoot at f/16 so I get a lot of depth of field
I'm shooting I Nikon d800 and a 14 to 24 millimeter lens
shooting at about 20 millimetres and when it's that wide on a full-frame
camera
we're gonna get plenty of depth of field at f/16. I'm at ISO 100 and
we all are gonna use a shutter speed of 1.3 seconds
because when the water comes up like that I click the shutter
and now while it's receding we get all that streakiness
that kinda looks misty in the photo. I love this composition.
I think it did a lot to the photo I I
beautiful beautiful shot now I wanna share your little one last photography tip so
I is that love bonus
tourists in the shop so one thing you can do is
use your same camera settings locked onto a tripod and
just don't move the composition and take a photo every five seconds maybe take 6
photos
these people are walking all around the beach
and so we're gonna go into Photoshop and you'll see now
how I can make all the tourists disappear thanks for trying all right we're back
from the beach and we're looking at the photos and i wanna show you how to get
rid of
is an annoying tourists from your photos
well you can see that I've taken a photos several seconds apart
and so people are moving up along the beach and what we're gonna do now
is we're gonna take these photos
I took several in a row just about five seconds apart
and the tourists moved between a we're going to take a min to Photoshop
and we're going to now I run a script to just erase all the tourists because they
moved in the photo so this will be easy
I've saved those photos out as JPEGs just to make this a little bit quicker
um I'm going to file > scripts >
statistics in Photoshop cs6 it'll be the same in cs5
and and I'm gonna choose these files here that I've saved is JPEGs smaller
JPEGs so this wouldn't take forever on the video
and gonna cook open now the important part here is that I've chosen median
at the top
I can line source images if I need to do but I was on a solid tripod I don't
think we moved
not just say okay and now photoshop does it's magic
grabbing all those photos finding what's different between them
and then putting out a finalized stack up images where we see
just the difference great I'm gonna go ahead and a rasterize this
will see why later and
now when i zoom in you'll see almost
all those tourists are gone these ones who remain where people who just stayed
there
on all the photos now I've Ross tries to because now I want to use the clone
stamp tool
and I can't do that unless the images are rasterized I'm in a quick
option on the Mac or alt on the PC
and I'm just gonna call on arrested this out with
almost all the doors gone the rest to the cleanup job here
is very very simple and there you have it
there's our file photo with out the tourists
