Interior Design Tips: Introduction to Indoor Lighting

As an Interior Designer and Lighting specialist I often get asked Why doesn't my house feel warm and inviting? The truth is lighting constitutes about 70% of a design. This is interesting because most people leave it as an after thought. Hello. My name is Arpad Butka Today I will walk you through the foundation of beautiful lighting. Proper lighting is achieved through layering. There are three easy steps to follow in order to accomplish this. They are: Task, Accent and Ambient lighting. Task lighting helps you perform tasks such as reading, grooming and food preparation. This can be achieved by using portable fixtures, wall mounted sconces or under cabinet lighting. Accent lighting is the wow factor in the space. It creates visual interest. You can illuminate plants, artwork and sculptures with the use of track, recessed or niche lighting. Ambient lighting is general lighting, It gives overall illumination and stands for the basis of all well lit space Examples of this are recessed lights, chandeliers, ceiling mount fixtures and wall sconces.
