My name is JoAnn Fernald and I believe in equality. Every day in my work, I remove barriers to learning for individuals with disabilities. I believe everyone brings their own unique gifts to the community and our community needs everyone’s gifts to prosper and grow. I support Let’s Learn North Carolina because it’s only fair to treat everyone in the community equally. Many years ago, a student with a disability came to our campus and talked with us about how to remove barriers to his education. He’d grown up in North Carolina and this was his home. He was a great student and worked hard. In fact, he was one of the student leaders who taught others about disabilities. He won a scholarship, but because of the North Carolina state system and his immigration status, he couldn’t receive the scholarship he earned. That’s just not fair. That’s why I support Let’s Learn North Carolina.
