Henry M. Paulson, Jr., the 74th secretary of the Treasury, spoke to Chicago Booth Magazine about the economics of climate change, the 2015 Paris Agreement, the next generation’s role in addressing climate change, and why conservation is important to him. - I view this as sort of the ultimate issue
of generational equity.
Every one of us
would like our kids and our grandchildren
to grow up and enjoy the same
privileges, the same lifestyle,
the same opportunities we have.
But my generation has tended to be a selfish generation,
because the actions we are taking
aren't the things we need to protect the next generation.
But I am energized by what I see on the campuses,
the University of Chicago and all around,
and I think that young people are determined
to make a difference,
and I think they will.
