My name is Charles Oliver. Today we were shooting "The Greater of Two Evils" a.k.a. the
museum heist. This is the episode where the Umbras under the direction of the Dark Doctor
are in the middle of their museum heist and they're interrupted by the OX under the direction of Karey
The Umbras are really sort of fashioned after 1920's-1930's brutish bowler hat, vests,
very Magritte painting sort of thing. Very proper, very confident, almost prim. A little
bit unexpected for a dance number like this, I think. The umbrellas are of course the invention
of Jon Chu. He came up with that concept and they become a weapon for them. What looks
like an accessory - almost a fashion accessory - becomes an unexpected weapon. That's the
design for the Umbras. 5, 6, 7, 8. 1 and 2 and 3 and 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. Get down, get down.
It's the get down. The OX of course are related to what's going on in the circus and in those
early episodes in the series, so there's definitely a circus flair to them as they come in and
fight the Umbras. Org. X dancers come in and interrupt, they're both after the
same object and this is where they for the first time meet and understand there are two
dark forces working seemingly against each other, but realizing that they may be able
to coordinate and collaborate together.
The footage looks great, the dancers are amazing.
Extraordinary, actually. And it looks beautiful, I'm very excited. I'm just here to play and they're here to work.
This is the first time we've done this much choreography in an episode,
so it was really cool to do that. There's like a lot of like Gene Kelly-esque mixed
with popping, and a little bit of waving, and also just a lot of isolation, which is cool.
And it's done in a very cool way, you know, where it would look effortless. Very nice, that's beautiful.
The choreography on this show is insane. Chris Scott, Harry Shum, shout-out
to you boys, 'cause you guys are sick. I feel like this episode is really taking this whole series
to a whole other level, now. So, this is one of the biggest ones. We've never had this
many people. Stay tuned, 'cause it's going down.
What I call the hat number, it's the
final number, it's very snappy, very precise and what I love the most about it is music and
dance that are very correlative, that talk to each other. They go back and forth and
you almost feel as if the music was written for the choreography rather than the other
way around and I'm just excited to see the piece edited and share it with everyone.
The LXD!
